Dolphin Skin: The New Kid On The (Trends) Block

Share

The online space is overwhelmingly filled with beauty tips and viral makeup hacks, which often times don’t sustain for that long! While the terms “dewy”, “glowing” and “glass skin” have already made their mark on the trends chart, “dolphin skin” is the new kid on the block.

So, What is Dolphin Skin?

The term dolphin skin refers to a “fresh out of the water” makeup look. The Instagram hashtag analysis might lead to Mary Phillips, a professional makeup artist who’s worked with celebs like Jennifer Lopez, Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner, as the coiner of this term. According to a CNN report, Mary Phillips describes dolphin skin as “…a glistening, hydrated, ‘fresh out of the water’ makeup look.” “Dolphins are known for their smooth, plump, reflective skin, so I think it’s a perfect, fun way to describe this aesthetic”, says Mary Phillips.

In comparison to glass skin which heavily relies on skin care, dolphin skin is makeup-centric, using products that give a wet, dewy effect by strategic applications of liquid and powder highlighters. It’s yet to be seen if dolphin skin beats dewy/glass skin as the new trend setting term. Stay tuned!!!
